I often get asked how long I have been in real estate and my answer always is a lifetime. No that isn’t a lame real estate agent joke but the truth. I grew up in a real estate family, instead of going to daycare as a child I went to listing appointments and open houses. While I was officially licensed in 2012 this lifetime of knowledge has given me a foundation in the business that far exceeds the number of years I have been licensed.

When I started in real estate, I made it my focus to learn as much as I possibly could about houses, construction, building code, home insurance requirements and more. For many years I shadowed home inspectors to learn what they were looking for and why. I took this knowledge to each showing with the intent of being able to educate the buyers of what to look for in a house. My goal was when we did the home inspection review, the buyers would not be surprised by what the inspector had to say. Instead, it would be a confirmation of what we already knew. I don’t believe in selling someone a house but instead giving them the knowledge and support to know when it’s the right house to buy.

This wealth of knowledge and desire to teach people led me to start a real estate focused YouTube channel in 2019 that I appropriately named Bald Prairie Real Estate. Instead of building the channel around flashing listing videos I wanted to help those looking for knowledge about buying or selling a house. The channel has grown a national audience checking in for the monthly Canadian real estate market update, covering eleven real estate markets in Canada. Or the weekly new recap videos with context and commentary on the week’s most pressing real estate topics. But the majority of the content is focused on educational real estate topics for those looking to buy a house. I wanted to try and build trust with buyers while they were in that initial research stage before they decided to reach out to a real estate agent. The goal was when they were ready, I would be the person they wanted to reach out too. Since the channel was launched, I have sent out over one hundred CLOSED referrals, had two million views, over 400 videos and gained sixteen thousand subscribers.
